Steps to Take Following a Car Crash

If you are in a car accident, it is important that you stop and render aid. You can do this by calling the police or asking another person to do so on your behalf. It is a good idea to check to see that you are unharmed before exiting your vehicle.

In some cases, moving can make an injury worse. Unless moving the vehicle creates a dangerous situation, leave it where it is until the police arrive. It is often a good idea to take pictures or record a video of your vehicle and the crash scene itself.

Give a statement to the police when they arrive to the scene, and get a copy of a police report to provide to your insurance company. If the accident was the other driver's fault, your insurance company will likely take action against that person's insurance company.
